Shenandoah County valedictorians, salutatorians announced

Susannah Garber

Shenandoah County Public Schools has announced valedictorians and salutatorians for the Class of 2018.

 Stonewall Jackson High School

Susannah Elizabeth Garber is valedictorian of Stonewall Jackson High School. The daughter of Army Corso, of Quicksburg, and Michael Garber, of Timberville, she is also a member of the first class to graduate from Shenandoah County Public Schools’ Biomedical Sciences Academy. She has already earned a certification in general education from Lord Fairfax Community College. This fall she will attend Christopher Newport University, where she will major in molecular biology.

Salutatorian is Yash Kaushal Desai, son of Dhara and Kaushal Desai, of New Market. He has already earned a certificate in general education from Lord Fairfax Community College. In the fall, he will attend Virginia Tech where he plans to major in engineering.

Of the class, 15 students were recognized as magna cum laude honor graduates (cumulative GPA above a 4.0), and nine were recognized as cum laude graduates (cumulative GPA between 3.75 -3.99).

Central High School

Annabelle Megan Palmer, daughter of Erin Turner, of Edinburg, is valedictorian of Central High School. She is also a graduate of Massanutten Regional Governor’s School and has been awarded a certificate in general education from Lord Fairfax Community College. She plans to major in engineering at Virginia Tech.

Salutatorian is Thomas Chase Lam, son of Tessie and John Lam, of Woodstock. He is also a graduate of Massanutten Regional Governor’s School and has been awarded a certificate in general education from Lord Fairfax Community College. He plans to major in engineering at the University of Virginia.

Of the class, 24 were recognized as magna cum laude honor graduates and 28 were recognized as cum laude honor graduates.

Strasburg High School

Kristin Joanna Hamman is valedictorian of Strasburg High School. The daughter of Sheri and Jeffrey Hamman, of Woodstock, she has already earned an associate degree in general studies from Lord Fairfax Community College. She will attend the University of Virginia to study government/political science and history.

Salutatorian is Kara Jane Bowman, daughter of Cathy and Bryan Bowman, of Strasburg. She has already earned a general education certificate from Lord Fairfax Community College. She plans to attend Jefferson College of Health Science in Roanoke to study biomedical sciences.

Of the class, 14 were recognized as magna cum laude honor graduates and 16 were recognized as cum laude graduates.
