Legion Auxiliary

The Strasburg American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 77 will meet at 7 p.m. today at the post home.



Friday is the deadline to register for the Virginia Cooperative Extension’s ServSafe Manager’s Course from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 1 and 6 at MidAtlantic Farm Credit in Winchester.

Fair, movie

Page County will host a free resource fair from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Ralph H. Dean Recreation Park in Luray.

The movie “Wonder” will be shown at sunset. Rain date is Saturday. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Popcorn and drinks provided.

Story time

The Clarke County Library will hold Stories in the Park, a family storytime program, at 10 a.m. Saturday in Rose Hill Park in Berryville (weather permitting).



A Vera Bradley and Thirty-One Bingo fundraiser to benefit the Blue Ridge Center for Therapeutic Horsemanship will be held Saturday at the John H. Enders Fire Hall in Berryville.

Doors open at 1 p.m. and play starts at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Proceeds will be used for scholarships for students with special needs and to care for therapy horses.

The Round Hill Ruritan Club will hold a community Christmas in July yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 164 Poorhouse Road, Winchester.

Shenandoah County Master Gardeners will present a program on making a soda bottle bird feeder from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Lowe’s in Woodstock. Information: 540-459-6140.



The United Way Rubbermaid product sale will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Belk parking lot at Apple Blossom Mall in Winchester. Proceeds benefit the Adult Care Center.


Yard party

The First Church of Columbia Furnace will hold a yard party starting at 4 p.m. Saturday. Food will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. with gospel music from 4 to 6 p.m. An auction will start at 6 p.m. An offering will be accepted to benefit the church building fund.


Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, on the corner of Mt. Olive and Back roads, will hold an ice cream social starting at 4 p.m. Saturday. Takeouts available.



The Richman family will hold a reunion at 1 p.m. Sunday at 1473 Jadwyn Road in Saumsville. Those attending are asked to bring a drink and covered dish. Paper products provided. Information: 540-459-8987.


Openings are still available for the STEM Day 4-H camp from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 31 at the Shenandoah County Government Center in Woodstock for ages 9 to 13.

School news

Randolph-Macon Academy graduated 68 seniors on May 26. This group, the 126th graduating class, earned 242 acceptances to 145 different colleges and universities, with over $6 million in college scholarship offers. The following local students were among the graduates:

  • Cailen Baggett, son of David and Stacy Baggett, of Winchester, will be attending Lord Fairfax Community College.
  • Mary Elizabeth Evans, daughter of Dana and Patrick Evans, of Winchester, will be attending Virginia Commonwealth University.
  • Dylan Glascock, son of Scott and Susan Glascock, of Middletown, will be attending the University of Mary Washington.
  • Reagan Grove, daughter of Josh and Julie Grove, of Front Royal, will be attending Coastal Carolina University.
  • Gillian Rydholm, daughter of Jennifer Rydholm and Paul Rydholm, of Front Royal, will be attending George Mason University.
  • Yiran Su, son of Eric Su and Mengling Su, of Front Royal, will be attending American University.
  • Sarah Vaughan, daughter of Michele Vaughan, of Front Royal, and Walter Vaughan, of Cedar Park, Texas, will be attending James Madison University.
