Showers

  • A card shower is planned for Landon and Frances Walker, formerly of Woodstock, who will celebrate their 72nd wedding anniversary Friday. Cards can be sent to 210 Virginia Ave., Apt. 302, Bridgewater, Virginia 22812.
  • A card shower is planned for Paul and Patsy Hockman, who will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday. Cards can be sent to 2323 Ridgeley Road, Woodstock, Virginia 22664.

 

Open houses

Shenandoah County Public Schools will hold open houses at all county schools, including Triplett Tech, from 1 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday for parents and students in preparation for the new school year that begins Monday.

 

Gallery

7 East Gallery, a VECCA partner, will hold its First Thursday open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at 123 S. Main St., Woodstock.

August’s featured artist is Diane Gould, who will show her works titled “Flowers and Things.” The gallery features works by over 20 local artists and artisans. Refreshments served. Information: www.vecca.org.

 

Reception

Art in the Valley will hold an opening reception from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday for its “Locally Inspired” show featuring new works by Blue Ridge area artists at 205-A E. Main St., Front Royal. Light hors d’oeuvrs served.

 

Reunions

The Copp family will hold a reunion at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Ruritan shelter at W.O. Riley Park in Woodstock. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish/drink. Paper products provided.

The Jacob Gochenour family will hold a reunion at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Rotary Club shelter at W.O. Riley Park in Woodstock. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish and drinks.

 

Lawn party

St. Jacob’s Lutheran Church in Edinburg will hold a lawn party starting at 4 p.m. Saturday. Music by Lion of Judah.  A free-will offering will benefit local charities.

 

Social

St. Stephens Lutheran Church, on Back Road west of Strasburg, will hold an ice cream social starting at 4 p.m. Saturday. Music will be by Five of a Kind. Proceeds benefit church repairs.

Open market

The New Market Chamber of Commerce will sponsor an open market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the SunTrust parking lot.

Featured will be vendors with antiques, specialty foods, arts and crafts, fresh produce and an activity for the children. Information: 740-3212 or email nmchamber@shentel.net.
