Pvt. Matthew Oczkowski graduated Aug. 3 from Marine Corps Boot Camp at Parris Island, S.C.

A 2017 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, he is the son of Jenny and Jeff Oczkowski, of Mount Jackson.

 

Plant swap

Library

The Shenandoah County Library in Edinburg will hold a Lego Club meeting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday for children 5 and older.

 

Goodlatte

A member of Congressman Bob Goodlatte’s staff will hold open door community office hours Thursday at the following locations:

  • Woodstock: 9:30-11 a.m., at Town Hall, 135 N. Main St.
  • Strasburg: noon-1 p.m., at Town Hall, 174 E. King St.

 

4-H

The Shenandoah County Extension office in Woodstock has scheduled the following meetings:

  • 4-H/FFA Livestock Show and Sale Executive Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Extension office.
  • Toms Brook 4-H Club and Cloverbuds will meet at 5:15 p.m. Aug. 19 at the United Methodist Church.
  • Lebanon Church 4-H Club and Cloverbuds will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Community Center.

Gardeners

Shenandoah County Master Gardeners will be available to answer home horticulture questions from 9 a.m. to noon Friday at the Extension office in Woodstock. Information: 459-6140.

 

Turkey federation

The Faithful Call chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will hold its annual hunting heritage banquet starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Mount Jackson Fire and Rescue building.

Fellowship

The Strasburg Adult Active Fellowship will meet at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church.

Justin Baker from Edward Jones will present a program on the changes to retirement plans. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish for the luncheon to follow and a non-perishable item for the food pantry or an item for the animal shelter.

Bloodmobile

The Greene Turtle and Alamo Cinema & Drafthouse will host a bloodmobile from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Kernstown Commons Shopping Center. Walk-ins welcome, but appointments are encouraged by visiting www.donateblood.vablood.org.
