Rick Logan, president of the South Warren Ruritan Club, presented $1,500 scholarships to Amber Shayeb and Bridgette Murphy at the club’s annual family picnic and meeting on Aug. 14.
Shayeb, a June graduate of Skyline High School and incoming freshman at Shepherd University, was presented with the J. Berkeley Pomeroy Memorial Scholarship.
Murphy, a June graduate of Warren County High School and incoming freshman at Shenandoah University, received the Edgar R. Baldwin Memorial Scholarship.
The following volunteers are scheduled at the Strasburg Museum:

Monday: morning, Joan Farrell and Ginny Conrad; afternoon, Terry Goad.

Thursday: morning, Bill Carper; afternoon, Gloria Stickley and Susan Bennett.
Friday: morning, Hope Brim; afternoon, Carol Fortune and Margo.
Saturday: morning, Pat Miller and Gladys Ritenour; afternoon, Tom Knowles.
The Lunch Bunch will meet at noon Monday at the Strasburg United Methodist Church. Reservations can be made by calling 540-465-3418.
Here are some of the programs being held at Handley Library in Winchester:
- Monday: 4:30 p.m., Teen Advisory Board meeting; 5:30 p.m., La Leche meeting.
- Wednesday: 10:30 a.m., family yoga in the garden; 4:30-7:30 p.m., Shenandoah Valley Chess Club.
- Aug. 31: 2 p.m., Crafternoons for ages 6-11; 4 p.m., Lego Club.
- Sept. 1: 10:30 a.m., family playtime; noon, the movie “Pinocchio” will be shown.
Here are some of the programs being held at Bowman Library in Stephens City:
- Monday: Lego Club; 6 p.m., Anime and Pocky for ages 12-up.
- Sept. 1: 10 a.m., chess; 11 a.m., family storytime for ages 3-up.
The Mt. Olive Community Fellowship dinner will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 108 Sand Ridge Road, Toms Brook. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish.
Shenandoah University will sponsor a blood drive from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Brandt Student Center, 1460 University Drive, Winchester.

The Type II Diabetes Management Support Group will meet at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Chronic Disease Resource Center, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester. The guest speaker will be a local pharmacist. No meeting will be held Aug. 30. Information: Debbie at 540-536-5106.
Signal Knob FFA
The Signal Knob Middle School FFA chapter has been chosen as a finalist to compete for the 2018 National FFA Middle School Model of Excellence award by the national organization.
Middle-school chapters that received high three-star ratings during judging July 22-27 are eligible to compete. The Model of Excellence award is the highest honor awarded to a middle school FFA chapter. The competition will take place at the national convention Oct. 24-27 in Indianapolis.
