The Marge Moyers Memorial Scholarship Fund has announced two $8,000 scholarships have been awarded to future educators for 2018. Recipients are:

• Michaela Nichole Amari, a graduate of Strasburg High School and the daughter of Laurie and Francesco Amari, of Strasburg. She plans to attend Virginia Tech.

• Jennifer Katherine Moore, a graduate of Central High School and the daughter of Georganna and Erick Moore, of Edinburg., She plans to attend Lord Fairfax Community College and transfer to James Madison University.

Marge Moyers, a long-time teacher from New Market, was a member of the Shenandoah County School Board at the time of her death. She was the first recipient of the county’s Teacher of the Year award.

The main fundraiser for the scholarship is the Marge Moyers Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament, which will be held Oct. 27-28 at The Shenvalee in New Market. Donations to support the scholarship can be sent to Treasurer Janet Dellinger at 9612 John Sevier Road, New Market, Virginia 22844.



A card shower is being held for Jane Clark, who will celebrate her 88th birthday Sept. 3. Cards can be sent to her c/o Lynn Care Center, 1000 Shenandoah Ave., Front Royal, Virginia 22630.


Type 1 Diabetes

The Type 1 Diabetes Support Group will meet at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at the old hospital’s Chronic Disease Resource Center, 333 W. Cork St., Suite 100, Winchester.



Samuels Public Library in Front Royal will host Science Scouts at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for ages 6 to 11. The group will examine radial symmetry with its Art in Nature theme. Information: 540-635-3153.



The Shenandoah Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will hold a Masquerade Jewelry $5 sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at hospital Door #24.
