A card shower is planned for Dorothy Williams, who will celebrate her 85th birthday on Tuesday. Cards can be sent to 647 Ash St., Strasburg, Virginia 22657.



The Harpine family reunion will be held starting at 1 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in New Market. Paper products provided.


Holiday closings

The following locations will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day:

  • Samuels Public Library in Front Royal.
  • All branches of the Handley Regional Library System: Handley Library in Winchester; Bowman Library in Stephens City and Clarke County Library in Berryville.
  • Shenandoah County Extension office in Woodstock.



Tuesday is the deadline to register for the STEM 4-H day camp from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 8 for ages 9 to 15 at the Shenandoah County Extension office in Woodstock.

The camp will be geared around a limited edition “journey” through 4-H Island and include tasks related to teamwork, resiliency and problem-solving.

The cost is $15. Registration: 459-6140.



The Shenandoah County Extension office has announced the following meetings will be held:

  • Seven Bends 4-H Shooting Education Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Round Hill Church of the Brethren in Toms Brook.
  • The 4-H Goat Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Woodstock American Legion Post 199.
