New Market hosts third annual Cross Roads Fest

NEW MARKET – New Market is the place to be this summer for residents and visitors alike who enjoy live music.

The town will host its third annual Cross Roads Fest at Rebel Park, with the first concert scheduled for Saturday.

Amber Dennison, the town’s events and marketing director, said concert series are free for town residents and those outside of the community.

“One of the reasons they (the town) did this was to give something to the community that was going to be fun and preferably free,” Dennison said. “It also helps with the traffic through town, getting more people into New Market. People who aren’t used to coming to New Market, hopefully they’ll come through town and see some of the things that we see, and they’ll want to come back.”

The concert series has four dates, with different bands on each date. Every Day People will play Saturday, Who Shot John will perform  July 7 and The Hackens Boys perform. The Martin Brothers/Aspen Run will round out the summer series with their show on Sept. 8.

“We try to keep the variety of music diverse, but we do make sure we have some country, bluegrass and some classic rock in there to appease different people and their genres,” Dennison said.

Entry into the concert is free and there will be food and drink vendors available. Dennison said the concerts are family events, so there will be cornhole and other activities for kids set up at Rebel Park as well. The event does not allow outside food and drink or pets.

“It’s just something fun for the local people to say ‘Hey, let’s go to this,'” Dennison said. “I mean how great is it for a little town to have a music series, that’s huge. It’s a huge draw to get people in here. We all think New Market’s awesome, so we need to give them a reason to stop and take a moment.”
