The following are some of the area events that will be held this weekend:

 

Concert

The American Legion Community Band will perform at 7 p.m. today at the gazebo on Main Street in Front Royal. Admission is free. Information: http://www.alcband.org.

 

Concert

The Friday Night Live Series in Old Town Winchester will kick off the summer season with a concert from 5 to 11 p.m. today at the Taylor Pavilion.

The featured band will be Dynamo with Threesound opening for the group. Acoustic music and street performers will also be on the Loudoun Street Mall. Firefly Festival

The State Arboretum at Blandy Farm in Boyce will hold a family firefly festival from 8 to 9:30 p.m. today. Rain date is Saturday.

‘Trolls’

The PG-rated movie “Trolls” will be shown at 7 p.m. today at the New Market Community Park. Princess Poppy will also be in attendance. Rain date is June 23.

Those attending are encouraged to bring chairs and/or blankets.

 

Battlefield

A National Park Service Ranger will present the program “Sabres & Saddles: Cavalry at Cedar Creek” at 7 p.m. Saturday at the NPS Visitor Contact Station, 7712 Main St., Middletown. Information: http://www.nps/gov/cebe.

Pottery

Museum of the Shenandoah Valley will hold a pottery show and sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 901 Amherst St., Winchester. Information: 540-662-1473 or www.themsv.org.

 

Rouss Center

The Rouss Center for the Arts will present the murder mystery “The Butleress” at 7 p.m. today and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at 9357 N. Congress St., New Market.

Future performances will be held June 23-25, which will include dinner on Fridays and Saturdays and dessert on Sundays. The cost for dinner shows are $25 and $20 for the dessert show. Reservations are required.

‘Odd Couple’

Theatre Shenandoah in Edinburg will present Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple,” a play about two mismatched roommates, at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors/youth. Tickets on Sunday will be discounted to $10 for all dads.

‘Aladdin’

Winchester Little Theatre for Kids will present “Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp” at 2:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 315 W. Boscawen St., Winchester.

‘Minions’

Magic Lantern Theater will show the movie “Minions” at dusk (about 8:30 p.m.) Saturday at Clearbrook Park’s Kiwanis shelter. Information: 540-678-0963.

 

Kid’s Film Club

Barns

Bright Box

Bright Box Theater has announced the following performances being held this weekend at 15 N. Loudoun St., Winchester.

  • Saturday: 7 and 10 p.m., Ladies Night Out starring the Men in Motion Dancers. Tickets: $20 in advance, $25 at door.

‘Hansel und Gretel’

The Luray Opera Theater in cooperation with the James Madison University Opera Guild will present “Hansel und Gretel” at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Trackside Theater, 32B E. Main St., Luray.

Bach Festival

The Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival celebrates its 25th anniversary season this weekend in Lehman Auditorium at Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg.

Concerts will be held at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday plus a Leipzig service at 10 a.m. Sunday. Pre-concert talks will begin at 6:45 p.m.

Festival

The annual Harrisonburg-Rockingham African-American Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Ralph Sampson Park. Featured will be crafts, art, music, food and exhibitors. Information: 540-395-3378.

 

Big Meadows
