The following are some of the area events that will be held this weekend:

Bluemont Concert Series

McComiskey, Byrne & Egan will perform at 7:30 p.m. today as part of the Bluemont Concert Series at the old Frederick County Courthouse, 20 N. Loudoun St., Winchester.

Admission is $5 per person, $4 for Bluemont Friends and senior citizens and $2 for children under 12. In case of bad weather, the concert will be moved to the First Presbyterian Church, 116 S. Loudoun St. Information: 540-338-4640.

Gazebo Gatherings

The Gazebo Gatherings Summer Concert Series will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Gazebo in Front Royal. Concerts, which are free, are presented by the Blue Ridge Arts Council in partnership with the County of Warren, Town of Front Royal and Virginia Commission for the Arts.


Shenandoah Conservatory will present “Hairspray” at 8 p.m. today and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre, 620 Millwood Ave., Winchester.

Music Festival

Country rock bands Pure Prairie League and Poco and the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra will perform this weekend at the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival at Shrine Mont in Orkney Springs.

• Today: 8 p.m., Pure Prairie League and Poco. Tickets range from $10 to $47.

• Saturday: 8 p.m., Piedmont Symphony Orchestra. Tickets range from $10 to $36.

Little Walter & The Convictions will perform today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Woodstock ROCS (Riley Outdoor Concert Series) at W.O. Riley Park.

Food available starting at 6 p.m. Admission is free. Those attending should bring lawn chairs and/or blankets.


The Warren County High School Theatre Department’s Maroon Masques will present a free summer showcase at 6 p.m. Saturday featuring monologues, scenes and musical acts presented by WCHS alumni, current and future students and parents.


Bowman Library in Stephens City will host the family film “Brave” and picnic from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Those attending are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and blanket. Library teens will serve popcorn and lemonade. Information: 540-869-9000.

‘Mothing’ party

The State Arboretum at Blandy Farm in Boyce will hold a family mothing party where moths will be attracted, caught and released from 9 to 10 p.m. today.

In recognition of this year’s centennial anniversary of the United States’ entry into World War I, the Virginia Quilt Museum will hold a textile study symposium “Friction, Fray and Fabric: Textiles in the First World War” today and Saturday.

Featured will be six lectures, a behind-the-scenes tour of America’s first Air Force One and four quilt exhibits.

Activities today include visits to Dynamic Aviation in Bridgewater, Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum in Staunton and the Crossroads Valley Brethren-Mennonite Heritage Center and Park View Mennonite Church in Harrisonburg.

On Saturday the museum will show fabrics through the lens of its war-affected manufacture and needful purposes at 301 S. Main St., Harrisonburg.

Bright Box

The following performers will be at Bright Box Theater this weekend at 15 N. Loudoun St., Winchester:

• Comedians Mike Burton and Joey Callahan: 8 p.m. today and 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets: $15 in advance, $18 at door.

• The 9 Singer/Songwriter Series showcase: 8 p.m., Saturday. Tickets: $10 in advance, $12 at door.

A free family friendly outdoor movie will be shown from 9 to 11 p.m. today at the Ralph H. Dean Recreation Park, 625 Sixth St., Luray.
