The following are some of the area events that will be held this weekend:


Music Festival

The Temptations and Piedmont Symphony Orchestra will perform this weekend at the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival at Shrine Mont in Orkney Springs.

The Temptations will perform at 8 p.m. today and the Piedmont Symphony at 8 p.m. Saturday. Gates open both nights at 6 p.m.

Woodstock ROCS

The Instigators will give a free concert from 7 to 9 p.m. today at W.O. Riley Park in Woodstock. Food sold starting at 6 p.m.


Date night movie

The Town of New Market will host a free date night movie featuring “You’ve Got Mail” at 8:50 p.m. today at the town park. Bring chairs or blankets.

Gazebo Gatherings

Rich Follett will perform at the Gazebo Gatherings Concert Series at 7 p.m. today at the gazebo in Front Royal. Admission is free.

Steam/gas engine show

The Shenandoah Valley Steam and Gas Engine Association will hold its annual steam and gas engine show today through Sunday at 890 W. Main St., Berryville.

There will be active displays, flea market, live music, horse/tractor pulls, parades and steam engines. Admission is $7 today and Saturday and $5 Sunday, children under 12 are free. Information: 540-272-0931 or www.svsgea.com.

Battlefield tours

Kernstown Battlefield’s own Larry Turner will lead two tours, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., Saturday. Those attending should meet at the Visitor’s Center, 610 Battle Park Drive, Winchester near Creekside Station.

Musical comedy

Selah Theatre Project will present “Zombie Prom: A Musical Comedy” at 7 p.m. today and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at 400-B Kendrick Lane, Front Royal.

“Mamma Mia”

The Shenandoah Theatre Summer Music program will present “Mamma Mia!” today through Sunday at Ohrstrom-Bryant Theatre at Shenandoah University in Winchester.

Barns of Rose Hill

The Bumper Jacksons will give a jazz concert and Nancy Polo will open her exhibit “Women Who Work?” at Barns of Rose Hill, 95 Chalmers Court, Berryville.

Bluemont Concert Series

McComiskey, Byrne & Egan will perform at the Bluemont Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. today at the old Frederick County Courthouse, 20 N. Loudoun St., Winchester. Admission is $5 per person, $4 for Bluemont Friends and senior citizens and $2 for children under 12. In case of bad weather, the concert will be moved to the First Presbyterian Church, 116 S. Loudoun St.

Performing Arts Luray

Rouss Center

“The Locker next 2Mine,” a dramedy by Jonathan Dorf, will be presented at 7 p.m. today and Saturday with a light dinner and 3 p.m. Sunday at Rouss Center for the Arts, 9357 N. Congress St., New Market.

Bright Box

Bright Box Theater has announced the following artists and activities will be offered this weekend at 15 N. Loudoun St., Winchester:

  • Today: 8 p.m., comedy by Brett Leake, tickets $15-$20; 8:30 p.m., Spotlight Sessions featuring Chris Sexton (of Nothin’ Fancy) and Alex Salser (of Dear Creek/Oh He Dead), tickets $8 in advance, $10 at door.

The Eirenei Players will present two free performances of “The Final Curtain: A Tribute to Peter & Wendy” from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Open House, 213 Main St., Front Royal. Doors open 15 minutes prior to the performance.
