This Weekend: Aug. 10

The following are some of the area events that will be held this weekend:

Warren County Fair

The Warren County Fair continues through Saturday.  Today, country music star Lee Greenwood will perform 7:30 p.m. The opening act is by Bryan Shepherd, of Berryville. Tickets are $15 for general admission or $25 for reserved seats.  General admission to the fair  is $10.  Gates open at 4 p.m. and rides open at 6 p.m.

Music Festival

The Shenandoah Valley Music Festival will continue its 55th season with two concerts this weekend at Shrine Mont in Orkney Springs:

  • Today: 7 p.m., Mary Chapin Carpenter with special guest, Emily Barker.
  • Saturday: 8 p.m., Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, with special guest James Maddock.

Route 11 Yard Crawl

The Route 11 Yard Crawl – stretching from Stephens City south to New Market, officially starts Saturday morning but early bird shoppers may be out today as tables filled with treasures go up along the route.  More information: shenandoahcountychamber.com/Rt-11-Yard-Crawl

Gazebo Gatherings

The Moonlighters will perform swing, jazz, blues and oldies music at the Gazebo Gatherings Summer Concert Series at 7 p.m. today at the Gazebo in Front Royal. Admission is free.

 

Bluemont Concert Series

Harmonious Wall will perform at the Bluemont Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. today at old Frederick County Courthouse, 20 N. Loudoun St., Winchester.

Admission is $5 per person, $4 for Bluemont Friends and senior citizens and $2 for children under 12. In case of bad weather, the concert will be moved to the First Presbyterian Church, 116 S. Loudoun St. Information: 540-338-4640 or www.bluemontconcert.org.

 

Woodstock ROCS

Little Walter & The Convictions will perform at Woodstock ROCS from 7 to 9 p.m. today at W.O. Riley Park. Admission is free. Information: 540-459-3621.

 

Museum

The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley will host a birdwatching walk and talk from 8:30 a.m.-noon Saturday at 901 Amherst St., Winchester.  Admission: $15. Information: 888-556-5799 or www.themsv.org.

 

Tours

Old Town Winchester will offer history and cemetery tours at 6 p.m. today. The cost is $10. Meet at 2 N. Cameron St. Reservations: 540-542-1326.

 

Strasburg Museum

The Strasburg Museum will offer free admission from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for its exhibit of antique tractors by the Massanutten Tractor Club. Also featured will be a collection of long rifles and barrel riding for the children. Information: 540-465-3175 or www.strasburgmuseum.org.

 

Cross Roads Fest

The Sons of Liberty will perform at the Cross Roads Fest Summer Music Series from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Rebel Park, 9186 John Sevier Road, New Market. Bring blankets/chairs, food sold. Information: 540-740-3432.

 

Magic Lantern Theater

Magic Lantern Theater, in partnership with Old Town Winchester, will show the classic film “An American in Paris” featuring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron at dusk (about 8:30 p.m.) Saturday at the Taylor Pavilion.

Film Night in the Park

Artist reception

7 East Gallery, a VECCA partner, will hold an artist’s reception for Diane Gould from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at 123 S. Main St., Woodstock. Information: 459-7500 or www.vecca.org.

 

Evenings on Main

Cazhmiere will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. today as part of the Evenings on Main Concert Series at Ruffner Plaza in Luray. In case of rain, the concert will be held at Performing Arts Luray. Admission is free.

 

1864 in a Box

A ranger from the Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Park Service will present 1864 In A Box, an interactive overview of the 1864 Shenandoah Valley Campaign, at 1 p.m. Sunday. Information: 757-593-8227, 202-302-9129 or www.kernstownbattle.org.

The 64th annual Clarke County Fair begins Sunday with the opening ceremony at 4 p.m. After the welcome by local officials and a performance of the Clarke County High School Band and/or Choir, stick around for the Pre-Teen Miss Clarke County Contest, followed by the Junior Miss Clarke County Fair Contest and then the Miss Clarke County Fair Scholarship Pageant.

Sky Meadows State Park in Delaplane will host the following programs this weekend:

  • Astronomy for Everyone: 8-11 p.m., Saturday with Junior Astronomer program for ages 5 to 12. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab will talk about the latest in space research. No admission after 9 p.m.
  • Explorer Outpost: 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at the Boston Mill Road Trail near the park office.
