Shenandoah County bridge opens early
STRASBURG – The Virginia Department of Transportation recently opened a new bridge in Shenandoah County – seven months early.
Crews completed the bridge on Seven Fountain Road (Va. 758) over Passage Creek in the Fort Valley area and opened the crossing Oct. 1, according to information from VDOT.
The two-lane, concrete bridge is 22 feet wide and features 20-inch-high railings. The new crossing replaces the single-lane bridge built in 1916. The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded an $830,000 construction contract to Fairfield-Echols LLC of Fishersville in April with a scheduled completion date of May 16, 2016.
