Elijah Pennington, 10, and Israel Pennington, age 7, sons of Crystal Pence, of New Market, show off their painted faces during the New Market Area Library’s celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday on Feb. 13 . Students from Stonewall Jackson High School and Shenandoah Valley Academy, along with adult volunteers, helped children celebrate with a birthday cake, cooking green eggs and ham, listening to Dr. Seuss books, face painting and making Dr. Seuss hats. Children also took home Dr. Seuss bookmarks and stickers. Liz Gum, of New Market, created and donated a birthday cake. Photo courtesy of Karen Whetsel
