Preston Smith to serve as Middletown’s grand marshal
Preston Smith of the Washington Redskins will serve as Middletown’s grand marshal during the town’s fourth of July celebration.
Middletown Mayor Charles Harbaugh IV said he has a good relationship wit Smith’s agent who knew the town wanted a current Washington Redskin to serve as grand marshal, and Smith fit the bill and was available July 4.
“Preston was just voted one of the Top 25 players in the NFL under the age of 25,” Harbaugh said. “He is entering his third year in the league.”
As grand marshal, Smith will ride in the parade and will come down to the park afterward to take advantage of the town’s festivities.
Middletown’s Fourth of July Celebration will begin at 8 a.m. July 4 with food and craft vendors available from noon to dusk, followed by fireworks.
The parade will be held at 5 p.m. and is hosted by Middletown Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company. Events planned throughout the day include a softball tournament, live music, games for kids, a magic show by magician Kevin Owen, a craft fair and a cornhole tournament.
