Florence Jowers

Grace Lutheran Church will host a festival of hymns written by Martin Luther as a centerpiece of the area’s celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation at 4 p.m. Sunday at 26 W. Boscawen St., Winchester.

Leading the event will be Florence Jowers and her husband, the Rev. Dr. Paul D. Weber, of Staunton, recently retired music professors at Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Jowers served as university organist and founding conductor of the university’s youth chorus.

Weber conducted the A Cappella and Chapel Choir and, with his wife, founded the university’s sacred music program.

A combined choir of area Lutheran churches will also participate. A reception will follow.
