Virginia Herb Festival is this weekend

The Virginia Herb Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday in Middletown.

The festival was founded in 2009 by Sunflower Cottage in Middletown, which is an herb farm and garden center sitting on 40 acres of farm land.

Billie Clifton, owner of Sunflower Cottage and Backroom Brewery, said several thousand people usually attend the event and hopes for the same this weekend with beautiful weather in the forecast.

“It’s an out-of-your-comfort zone experience,” she added. “There’s plenty of space to roam around. Plenty of things for people to look at. There’s a diverse selection. Everything from family friendly games to beer tasting, to shopping and a big plant sale.”

She said there will also be great bargains and delicious food for the whole family and variety of programs, including a cooking program with cilantro and hot peppers. Free programs include a home brewing demonstration, meet the brewer and brewery tour, essential oils, herbal remedies, aroma therapy, how to make a hammock, and more.

“There’s a lot of different ways to entertain yourself and plug in at what ever experience level you’re interested in,” she added. “It’s just a fun day out at the farm.”

Admission is $5 per person and children 12 and under are free. The admission charge is good for both days.  All programs are free.
