Roy and Mary Martin, of Strasburg, have announced the birth of a son, Miles Shawn, on May 5 at Winchester Medical Center.

He joins brothers Ian and Drew. Grandparents are Wayne and Phyliss Darr, of Strasburg, and Roy and Amy Martin Sr., of Grove City, Pennsylvania.


The Shenandoah County Library in Edinburg will hold a string art workshop at 3 p.m. Thursday. Information: 984-8200.


The Rock will host a chicken/fish dinner fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 1337 Edgemont Ave., Front Royal.

The Edinburg Christian Church will host a Christmas in July craft fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine. Drinks and food available.


Shenandoah County Extension Master Gardeners will be available to answer home horticulture questions from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Lowe’s in Woodstock. Information: 540-459-6140.


Oak Level United Methodist Church in Fort Valley will hold a one-day vacation Bible school from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The theme is “Getting S’more of Jesus.” Activities include Bible study, crafts, music, lunch and a closing picnic. Information: 540-933-6606.


Bowman Library in Stephens City will hold a program in its series of garden talks titled “Water Wise Gardening” from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Northern Shenandoah Master Gardener Carolyn Wilson will provide a graphic demonstration showing how little fresh water there is on the planet and then discuss how to plan a garden site to use the least amount of water.

The Fort Valley Fire Department will not hold its monthly bingo Saturday or in August or September.


Antioch Church of the Brethren will hold vacation Bible school from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday through July 12 at 23502 Senedo Road, Woodstock, for children in preschool through the fifth grade. The theme is ‘Fixer-Upper.’

Friends of Handley Library will host the Cosmic Adventures Traveling Planetarium featuring three programs July 15 for the partial solar eclipse on Aug. 21.

Samuels Public Library in Front Royal will host Pyrography: Art with Heat at 10:30 a.m. July 22.
