The Rev. Bass Mitchell has been appointed as the new minister at Manor Memorial United Methodist Church in New Market.

His first services will be at 8:30 and 10:55 a.m. Sunday.

Mitchell did his undergraduate and graduate studies at Mount Olive College, Barton College, Florida State University, Duke Divinity School and Southeastern Seminary. He and his wife Debbie have two grown children, Michael and Meredith.  He can be contacted at pastor.bass@gmail.com.


Macedonia Baptist Church in Flint Hill will celebrate its 152nd anniversary with the following services and guest speakers. The theme is “Transitioning from the Old into the New.”

• Wednesday: 7:30 p.m., featuring the Rev. Forrest Freeman, pastor of Saint John Baptist Church in Luray.

• Thursday and Friday: 7:30 p.m., featuring the Rev. Dr. Lee Earl, former pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Alexandria.

• July 16: 11 a.m., the Rev. Howard Frye, pastor of Nazareth Baptist Church in Boston, Virginia. Lunch will follow.

• July 16: 3 p.m., the Rev. Eugene Pearson, pastor of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Aldie, accompanied by his choir and congregation.
