Skyline High School top graduates recognized

The following graduates at Skyline High School were recognized during commencement ceremonies June 3:

The top academic female graduate is Alexandra Zan Hickman. She earned an associate degree from Lord Fairfax Community College, the school’s first student to do so before graduation. She is the daughter of Glenn and Maria Hickman. She plans to study engineering at the University of Virginia.

The top academic male graduate is Landon James Holben. He attended Mountain Vista Governor’s School earning a freshman year of college credits at Lord Fairfax Community College. He is the son of Mark and Jodie Holben. He plans to study international relations at the University of Virginia.

The Hawk 4 Award, which is given to the senior that has best exemplified the characteristics of the Hawk 4, which are value, learning, respect for themselves and others, be here and think positively went to Leon M. Bradshow, son of Kentia Diamond and Gary Diamond. He received a scholarship for $3,000.

Of the 227 students in the class, 45 are going to a four-year school, 78 are going to a two-year school, 16 will be attending a trade school, 86 plan to enter the work force and two will be going into the military.

Scholarships awarded totaled $984,225 with $584,755 in college awards, $13,104 from Blue Ridge Technical Center, $175,866 in local scholarships, $10,500 in athletic awards and $200,000 in military scholarships.
