A member of Congressman Bob Goodlatte’s staff will hold open door community office hours Thursday at the following locations and times:

• Woodstock: 9:30-11 a.m., Town Hall, 135 N. Main St.

• Strasburg: noon-1 p.m., Town Hall, 174 E. King St.



Sharon Gromling, executive director of Our Health, will be the speaker at the meeting of Blue Ridge Kiwanis of Winchester at 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the Best Western-Lee Jackson in Perkin’s Restaurant in Winchester.


The Church of the Rock will hold revival services at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday at 20 E. 8th St., Front Royal. Speakers and music are:

• Thursday: Bishop Shelton Conway from St. Stephens City of Praise in Martinsburg, West Virginia, and music by Instant Prayer Ministry.

• Friday: the Rev. Ronald Chunn from Nelsonville Baptist Church in Ohio and music by Swift Ford Baptist Church.

Stonewall Jackson’s Headquarters and the Kernstown Battlefield Association will host a seminar on Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 610 Battle Park Drive, Winchester.

Speakers Steve French and Jerry Holsworth will discuss Jackson at Falling Waters July 2, 1861, and Jackson in Winchester.

Former employees of Aileen-Flint Hill will hold a luncheon at 1 p.m. Saturday at The Apple House, 4675 John Marshall Highway, Linden.


Kirk Andrews will present a program on Shenandoah County bird watching at 3 p.m. Saturday at the New Market Library.

He will discuss skills, equipment and online tools available. The program is free. No registration is required.


The Winchester-Frederick-Clarke Republican Women will hold its annual Boots & Barbecue fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the James Charles Vineyard, 4063 Middle Road, Winchester.

A portion of proceeds will benefit the Veterans Outpatient Clinic in Stephens City. Tickets are $35 and include one glass of wine. There will also be auctions and a Best Boots contest.

Party, auction

Fairview United Methodist Church will hold a family yard party at 4 p.m. and auction at 6 p.m. Saturday at 968 Double Church Road, Stephens City.

There will be pan-fried chicken or country ham dinners with salad bar. Homemade ice cream will be also available separate from the meal. Cost is $12 for adults, $5 for children 10 and under and $15 for a meat combo.


Kernstown United Methodist Church will hold a community dinner featuring pulled pork and/or chicken from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday at 3239 Valley Pike, Winchester. Dinner will be followed by outdoor games, including water games, at 7 p.m.
