Samuel Steed, 13, of Maurertown, plans to enter nine animals into the Shenandoah County Fair: two steers, four heifers and three hogs. He’s no stranger to animals, as he’s been around them his entire life, and he’s been showing them for the last five years.

“It takes a lot of time, patience and effort to put forth your best in the show ring,” Samuel said.

In 4-H, Samuel said that they’re all about community service and helping people through projects like singing in nursing homes around Christmas, and offering support to the people who need it.

With his earnings from the fair, he said he plans on putting it right back into the cattle’s feed. Samuel also extended an invitation to anyone interested to come and see his animals at the fair.
