Fundraiser

The Front Royal Little League Challenger Team, for ages 5 to 18 with physical and/or mental disabilities, will hold a bake sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Rural King in Front Royal.

Money raised will benefit players to attend the Challenger Tournament in May in Norfolk. Information: Susan Mullins at sleaguemullins@yahoo.com.

Party/picnic

St. Luke Brethren Church will hold a yard party and community picnic from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at 3250 Back Road, Woodstock.

There will be pork tenderloin dinners, homemade pies and cakes and music by Five of a Kind from 4 to 7 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a lawn chair. Proceeds benefit local charities. Information: Pastor Freddie Helsley at 540-325-6737.

Luke’s Backpack

Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Woodstock and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Strasburg will accept individual servings of food items for Luke’s Backpack on Sunday.  Information: 540-481-6237.

Class

Blue Ridge Housing Network and People Inc. will offer free homebuyer classes on the following schedule:

• Page County: 6-9 p.m., Sept. 12 and 19 at Pioneer Bank, 263 E. Main St., Stanley.

• Winchester: 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sept. 17 behind the Open Door Baptist Church, 1437 Front Royal Road.

Local experts will give presentations on personal finance, credit and credit issues, working with the lender, role of the real estate agent, the home inspection and the loan closing. Certificates of completion will be given, which fulfills the education requirement for down-payment assistance programs and loan products.

Fundraiser

The annual Cash Party Battle of the Jerseys, which benefits Special Olympics athletes in Winchester and Frederick and Clarke counties, will be held starting at 5 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Greenwood Fire Hall and Event Center, 809 Greenwood Road, Winchester.

Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Tickets are $30. There will be raffles, tip jars, 50/50 and silent auctions. Must be 21 to attend.
