Apple festival is Saturday at Marker-Miller Orchard
WINCHESTER — Enjoy everything apple related at this year’s Apple Harvest Festival at Marker-Miller Orchard on Saturday.
Heather McKay, co-owner of Marker Miller, said the annual Apple Harvest Festival marks National Apple Month.
“We’ve been hosting the event since 2001. We do it to promote the apple and its orchard,” she added.
According to the U.S. Apple Association, National Apple Month’s mission is to increase apple industry sales and to enhance consumer awareness and usage of apples and apple products. It’s also a way to honor the individuals involved in getting them from the farm to table.
There will be over 20 varieties of apples to choose from; 12 varieties in the market and 10 pick your own, McKay explained. Apples available include Nittany, Rome, Crispin, Yatika Fuji, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, Stayman and Ida Reds.
In addition to picking apples off the trees, visitors will be able to purchase homemade apple cobbler, apple cider slushies and donuts. Blue Ridge BBQ and 3 Ovens Pizza will be on site with their food trucks.
For the kids there will be a cow train and playground. Wagon rides around the farm are scheduled throughout the day, and the pumpkin patch is open.
There is no admission fee.
