The Town of Woodstock will host Halloween on Court Square from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday for trick or treating, games, pumpkin painting and a petting zoo. Information: 459-3621.


New Market American Legion Post 166 will hold its annual craft show Saturday at 202 E. Old Cross Road. Homemade apple butter will be sold. Information: 740-3437.


The following Halloween-related events will be held in Luray:

• Saturday: 2-6:30 p.m., Ghosts in the Belfry at the Luray Singing Tower. Pumpkin-painting contest, food truck, tower tours.

• Tuesday: 6-8:30 p.m., night of fun and frights, costume contest at the Ralph H. Dean Recreation Park.

Crab feast

The Front Royal Volunteer Fire Department will host an all-you-can-eat blue crab feast with hot dogs, ham, coleslaw and hush puppies from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Beer tickets included with the $40 ticket price. Tickets sold at the door with valid ID. Information: 540-635-2540.


Katharine McLeod, the Winchester foster parent recruitment coordinator for Embrace Treatment Foster Care, will be the speaker at the luncheon meeting of the Rotary Club of Front Royal at noon today at the Holiday Inn at Blue Ridge Shadows. The cost is $12.


The Shenandoah County Library in Edinburg will host a Fall Festival from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday. Families can take a (not too) spooky story walk around the library for treats, make a craft and show off costumes. Information: 984-8200.


The Town of Front Royal will sponsor Hometown Hallowe’en from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with merchants giving away candy and treats to costumed children. Information: 540-635-5788.


Bennett’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Front Royal will host Trunk or Treat from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with free hot dogs, drinks and candy. Rain or shine.


The New Market Area Library will host a Trick or Treat event from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday for children to show off their costumes and get a treat, including a free book.


Bowman Library in Stephens City will hold a launch party at 6 p.m. Tuesday for its young writer’s program for ages 12 to 18 to write a novel in November.

Writing sessions will be held from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Tuesdays. Information: 540-869-9000.


Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Front Royal will serve a free “Frank ‘n’ Soup” meal from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the courtyard. Canned food or monetary donations for C-CAP will be accepted.


The Town of New Market will host trick or treating from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday on Congress Street and the parking lot on John Sevier Road with businesses and the police and fire departments.

Bell ringers

The Front Royal Salvation Army Corps is seeking bell-ringers to staff its kettles for the Christmas season. All money raised goes back into the local community.

Kettles will be located throughout Front Royal outside businesses such as Rural King, Walmart, Big Lots and the ABC Store. Each kettle needs a bell ringer from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily from Nov. 10 through Dec. 23. Both volunteer and paid positions are available.

Blue Ridge Housing Network and People Inc. will offer free home buyer classes on the following schedule:

• Page County: 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Nov. 4 at Pioneer Bank, 263 E. Main St., Stanley.

• Warren County: 6-9 p.m., Nov. 8 and 15 at Blue Ridge Housing Network, 115 Chester St., Front Royal.

Local experts will give presentations on personal finance, credit and credit issues, working with the lender, role of the real estate agent, the home inspection and the loan closing.

Certificates of completion will be given, which fulfills the education requirement for down payment assistance programs and loan products.
