2018 Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival theme announced

WINCHESTER – Simplicity best describes the 2018 Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival theme “Welcome Home.”  An ode to yesteryear, next year’s theme reminisces on simpler times and simpler places.

“Every year we look forward to this event,” said Mike Stanfield during Thursday’s announcement of the theme.  “And every year it gets bigger.”

Erik Zimmerman, of White Spider Designs, created the artwork accompanying the theme for the 91st festival.

“We wanted to create something simple but elegant,” Zimmerman said.

A single apple blossom, with a simple caption was the end result. Zimmerman hand-sketched the bloom in vibrant pinks and greens, against a background of swirling, brightly colored lines.

Ann Jarboe, arts administrator for ShenArts, was happy when she learned of next year’s theme.

“It’s just so Winchester,” Jarboe said. “Like Mike said, it’s welcoming friends and family to Winchester. People are simply getting together, coming to town and sharing in the fun.”

Dot Kelly, a sophomore at Shenandoah University, was named the 2018 Miss Apple Blossom in October.

Known as “Bloom Week,” the festival will be held April 27-May 6. Tickets are on sale and Bloom fans are encouraged to buy their tickets early.

“They sell out every year,” Stanfield said.
