Save money, save lives at local SPCA thrift shop

Those looking for the perfect way to give back to the animal community this holiday only need to look to one place in Winchester, and that’s the SPCA Thrift Store at 2225 Valley Ave.

Heather Rogers, the newest store manager of the  store, believes in giving back to the four-legged community. After working in the corporate environment for many years, she’s eager to help a good cause.

“We sell a little bit of everything across the board,” Rogers said. “Hot sellers for us right now are definitely the furniture. But people are coming in looking for Christmas gifts, too.”

Rogers’ role as store manager is to promote the brand and the giving back aspect of the store. “We take the donations and create an environment that our customers feel comfortable bringing any product in knowing that they’ll be helping the cause,” Rogers said.

New this year is the “Christmas Shop,” where customers will find rows of Santas, vintage Christmas ornaments and other holiday items for sale.

Rogers said something for everyone can be found at the SPCA Thrift Shop.

“We’re a thrift shop that offers great quality merchandise at a great price,” she said. “Plus, our customers are able to not only save money themselves but they’re saving the lives of animals.”

For Rogers, that’s what it’s all about.

“We tend to get a lot of people that want to own the house with the 1,000 cats, but realize it’s not practical so they come in here and give back to the SPCA,” Rogers said. “We can’t thank them enough for their generous support. We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them.”

Founded in 1907, the Winchester SPCA has been advocating for animals for over 100 years. In 2008, the thrift shop opened. Proceeds from the sales go back to the shelter to help “make it a bigger and better environment for the animals,” Rogers said.
