Family Fun Day features parade, food, vendors

FRONT ROYAL – A Louisiana-style parade at 10 a.m. Saturday in the downtown area will kick off Family Fun Day, which is expected to draw around 3,000 people.

William Huck, owner of C & C Frozen Treats and event organizer, said the Louisiana-style parade will feature people in costumes, beads and candy. Those in the parade will travel Luray Avenue to Main Street, then to Chester and end on Second Street.

“It’ll be the best parade the state of Virginia has ever seen,” he said.

With 73 entrees, Huck said it’s sure to be a lot of fun. Floats include Helltown Hatters, Shenandoah Golf Club, Virginia Beer Museum and Jig & Jive.

Following the parade, there will be activities for kids of all ages including jump roping, moon bounces, face painting, a car show, live entertainment from The Shockers and over 36 vendors offering a wide variety of items and community information.

There will be a food court offering crawfish, festival food and sweets.

“We created this event to give back to the community for their long support,” Huck said. “It’s with, for and about the community this year.”

Sponsors for Family Fun Day include Rural King, National Media, Royal Examiner, Hassle Free Payroll, SCS Worldwide and Vet Builders.

Huck added: “Be early and bring a bag for a day full of family fun!”

Trophies will be passed out for the best floats and winning vintage cars.
