Staufferstad Arts celebrates completion of mural

STRASBURG – Staufferstadt Arts, a nonprofit group that fosters the local arts culture in Strasburg, is hosting an unveiling party today at 227 E. King St. in honor of muralists  Jessie Unterhalter and Katey Truhn of Baltimore.

Daniel Lefkowitz, co-founder of Staufferstadt Arts, said “drawing from the colors of the local landscape, including the orange and tans of the clay that lies beneath our soil and the greens and purples of the sunlit mountains, Jessie and Katey have created a composition abstract in nature but which speaks in the visual vocabulary of our valley.”

The seventh mural to come to Strasburg, Lefkowitz said, was inspired by nature photos provided by residents of Strasburg and surrounding counties. Pictures included flowers, mountains, weather and insects.

Painting began on Monday.  Today’s unveiling will include an evening of food, drink, music and children’s activities, all with views of the town’s newest mural.

Lefkowitz said the purpose behind Staufferstadt Arts is to build a walkable, outdoor gallery that will serve as an artistic gateway into the county, physically welcoming visitors and spiritually inviting residents to imagine a future where anything is possible.
