Toastmaster news
Somnath Bhattacharrya received the competent leadership award and Mark West the advanced communicator bronze award at the meeting of the Winchester Toastmasters on Dec. 17.
College news
Sarah Boppe, a senior at West Virginia University, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester. She was also inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society.
A 2007 graduate of Handley High School, she is the daughter of Bruce and Margaret Boppe of Winchester.
Library news
Handley Regional Library will offer free computer workshops at the Bowman and Handley libraries in January and February.

Classes at Bowman are on introduction to the Internet, basic MS PowerPoint, Excel, Google tools, basic e-mail, beginning MS Word, basic MS Publisher, online database searching and getting to know the computer.

Tree recycling
Frederick County will accept cut Christmas trees for recycling at county convenience sites, except in the Greenwood Road area, through Jan. 31.
Greenwood area residents have been asked to take their trees to the landfill, which accepts all forms of greens and yard waste throughout the year.

Military news
Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Logan R. Kees has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base at San Antonio, Texas.
The son of Stacey Butler of Inwood, W.Va., and Ricky Kees of Stephens City, he graduated from Musselman (W.Va.) High School in 2008.
