Skatepark news

The Warren County Skate Park has raised $459,171 but needs $85,334 for completion.

School news

Randolph-Macon Academy Middle School will hold a scholarship writing contest for fifth- through seventh-graders.

The first-place scholarship is a grant of $2,000 for tuition for 2009-2010 school year. Essays are due at the open house on March 15 at 2 p.m. Further information is available by calling 636-5480.

Camp news

The RiverRidge Foundation for Environmental Research and Education is accepting applications for its Camp RiverRidge for second- through 12th-graders.

College news

The following Front Royal residents were named to the dean's list at James Madison University for the fall semester:

Amanda Linger, Heather Presley, Justin Thurston and Brittany Tribus.

Anthony Bootz of Front Royal graduated with honors from James Madison University.

Heather Presley and Michael Presley were named to the dean's list for fall semester at James Madison University.

They are the children of Phillip and Tina Presley of Front Royal.

Caleb Gibson, a sophomore physics and applied mathematics cadet at Virginia Military Institute, was named to the dean's list for the fall semester.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Gibson III of Front Royal.

Library foundation

The Samuels Library Foundation is accepting donations of $100 or $250 for a personalized brick for the new library's walkway.

Military news

Shawn P. Campbell of Luray enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the delayed entry program at the Pittsburgh Navy Recruiting District.

Campbell will report for active duty to undergo basic training at the Navy's Recruit Training Center at Great Lakes, Ill.

The son of Robin K. Campbell, he is a 2005 graduate of Luray High School.

Army National Guard Sgt. Frederick J. Fruck III participated in the presidential inauguration Jan. 20.

Fruck, a squad leader, is a member of the 1st Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment based in Lexington. He has 13 years of military service.

He is the son of Frederick J. and Karen L. Fruck of Virginia Beach and a 1994 graduate of First Colonial High School, Virginia Beach.

His wife, Angela, is the daughter of Ernest and Charlene Good of Luray.

Rebecca Milloy, Nicholas Herge and Marissa Zaidman, all of Linden, were named to the dean's list at James Madison University for the fall semester.
