Neighborhood notes: Winchester

Festival princesses

Five local women have been named princesses in the court of the queen of the 82nd Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival, April 24-May 3.

Emily M. Hoff, daughter of Belinda and Eric Heflin of Winchester and George Hoff of Boyce and granddaughter of Linda and Carlton Ramey Jr. of Winchester and Elizabeth Hoff of Boyce, is a freshman at Shenandoah University. A nursing major, she is a member of the volleyball team. She is a graduate of James Wood High School, where she was a member of the FFA and volleyball team.

Molly J. Hott, daughter of Karen and George Hott of High View, W.Va., and granddaughter of Juanita Bukrim of Morgantown, W.Va., is a freshman at West Virginia University. An education major, she is a member of the Women's Jazz Ensemble. She placed third nationally in a photography contest and received Wayside Theatre's outstanding actress award.

Brooke K. Koppenhaver, daughter of Allison and Timothy Koppenhaver and granddaughter of Shirley and Ralph Mitchell and Joan and Andrew Koppenhaver, all of Winchester, is a freshman allied health major at Bridgewater College. She is a graduate of Handley High School where she was yearbook editor and a member of the National Honor Society and Anchor Club.

Elizabeth S. Mislowsky and Emily S. Mislowsky, daughters of Koy and Ronald Mislowsky of Winchester and granddaughter of Martha Edmiston of Martinsville, are freshmen at James Madison University and graduates of Handley High School.

Elizabeth is a health sciences major with an emphasis on the physician's assistant program and a member of the JMU swim team. At Handley she was a member of the National Honor Society, the Booster, Anchor and Key clubs and the swim and volleyball teams. She also was a Special Olympics swim coach.

Emily, a health sciences major with an emphasis on pre-physical therapy, is a member of the swim team and Pre-Physical Assistants Society. At Handley she was a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Booster Club and cross country team.

Stephens City

College news

Kara Edmondson of Stephens City, a business administration major at Shenandoah University, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester.

Kelley L. Medcalf of Stephens City has been named to the dean's list at Boston University for the fall semester.

Military news

Army Reserve Pvt. Jon H. Whilden has graduated from basic training at Fort Sill at Lawton, Okla.

The son of Lorraine Whilden of Stephens City, he is a 2008 graduate of Sherando High School.
