Woodstock

School news

Tyler Cardwell, a junior at Central High School, was selected as a clarinetist to the All-Virginia Band and Orchestra during auditions at Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria.

The following 11th-graders at Central High School have been named to the A honor roll for the fourth grading period:

The Central High School FFA meat judging team placed first in the state competition at Virginia Tech.

Team members are Willie Elgin, Aaron Heishman, Michael Marston and Brian Walsh. Walsh was high individual.

The team will compete in the national contest in October in Manhattan, Kan.

College news

Rebecca Kibler of Woodstock has been named to the dean's list for the first winter term at National College.

Strasburg

Military news

Army Pvt. Tamika A. Fischer has graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson at Columbia, S.C.

The daughter of Cindy Hamp of Strasburg, she is a 2005 graduate of Strasburg High School.

College news

Jessica Ritenour was named to the dean's list at Shenandoah University for the fall semester.

She is the daughter of John Miller and Vicky Ritenour of Strasburg.

Mayfest news

Strasburg High School baseball alumni have been asked to play in the Mayfest old-timers game May 16 at 6 p.m. at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Casey Swanger has been elected vice president of the sophomore class at Mary Baldwin College.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Swanger of Toms Brook.

Mt. Jackson

College news

Paula Johnson of Mt. Jackson has been named to the dean's list for the first winter term at National College.

Quicksburg

School news

Ashby-Lee Elementary School students participated in an Earth Day project by decorating grocery bags donated by Mt. Jackson Food Lion.

Merillat employees will judge the bags, which will be used by Food Lion.

New Market

College news

Peggy Smith of New Market has been named to the dean's list for the first winter term at National College.
