Military news

Army Pvt. Gary F. Nelson has graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson at Columbia, S.C.

The son of Pat Nelson of Strasburg, he is a 2008 graduate of Handley High School.

College news

Matthew Kline earned a bachelor's degree in wildlife fisheries resources at West Virginia University on May 17.

A 2005 graduate of Strasburg High School, he is the son of Mike and Cecilia Kline of Strasburg and the grandson of Cecil and Betty Miller of Strasburg and Marie Kline of Maurertown.

Kara Plauger graduated with a doctorate of pharmacy with honors at the Medical College of Virginia on May 16.

She will complete a general pharmacy practice residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

A graduate of Strasburg High School and Virginia Tech, she is the daughter of Gwyn Plauger and Roy Wimmer of Strasburg and the granddaughter of John and Glenys Dyer of Alexandria and the late Woody Plauger.
