New Market

Garden club news

Ruth Garretson, a master gardener, discussed the New Market Library rain gardens at the meeting of the New Market Garden Club on Aug. 17.

Ethel Garber discussed fall gardening tips.

Virginia Thompson and Dot Johnson each received three blue ribbons for horticulture. Janice White and Ingrid Flowers received blue ribbons on artistic arrangements.


Lt. Col. and Mrs. E. Deacon Maddox of Fort Belvoir have announced the birth of a son, Daniel Deacon, on July 28 at DeWitt Army Hospital at Fort Belvoir.

Grandparents are Shirley Maddox of Strasburg and Mr. and Mrs. Kon U Yi of Anaheim, Calif. The great-grandmother is Marjorie White of Hampton.


Daniel "Opie" and Kristen Gregoire of Woodstock have announced the birth of a son, Hunter Stephen-Marcel, on July 28 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.

Grandparents are Patricia Gochenour of Woodstock, Shelley Hall of Front Royal, Tonya Poe of Harrisonburg, Danny Gregoire and the late Terry Click

Mt. Jackson

Military news

Air National Guard Airman Kenneth J. Turner Jr. graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base at San Antonio, Texas.

The son of Kenneth and Barbara Turner of Mt. Jackson, he is a 2007 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School.
