Air Force Airman Jacob C. McDaniel graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base at San Antonio, Texas.

The son of James and Jackie McDaniel of Winchester, he is a 2003 graduate of Mountain View Academy.

Nicholas R. Doumont has entered basic cadet training at the U.S. Air Force Academy in preparation to enter the first academic year at the academy.

The son of Joseph and Lisa Doumont of Winchester, he is a 2009 graduate of Millbrook High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Vanessa L. Jackson completed U.S. Navy basic training at the Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes, Ill.

She is a 2006 graduate of Clarke County High School.

Kathy Birch, president of the Virginia Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Clarke County chapter, attended the national convention Aug. 15-20 in Phoenix, Ariz.
