Valentine's Day event scheduled

NEW MARKET -- The New Market Battlefield State Historical Park is mixing love and war this Valentine's Day.

At 2 p.m. Feb. 14, the Virginia Military Institute glee club will perform a free concert, according to a press release. The group, which has 35 members, has existed since 1885.

Also, new products will be unveiled at the Hall of Valor Museum store. Posters and note cards incorporating the image of a circa 1826 fraktur love note passed down in the Bushong family will be made available, the release states. A Bushong descendant bequeathed the item to the park last year.

A fraktur, while also a form of bold calligraphic lettering on important documents, refers to the folk art paper creations typical of the German settlers in Pennsylvania and Virginia in the 18th and 19th centuries, the release states.
