Princesses named to queen's court


Festival princesses

Five students have been named princesses in the court of the queen of the 83rd Apple Blossom Festival April 23-May 1.

Representing Lord Fairfax Community College is Brittany N. Green, daughter of Sheila and Rickey Green of Mt. Jackson and granddaughter of Bonnie Proctor of Mt. Jackson, Betty and Bill Green of Quicksburg and Janet Lonas of Woodstock. A sophomore science major, she is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, vice president of fundraising and was homecoming queen.

Representing Shenandoah University is Alexis M. Hargbol, daughter of Michele and Dana Hargbol of Manassas and granddaughter of Constance and Thomas Mitro of Richmond. A senior majoring in pharmacy, she is the 2009 homecoming queen and a member of the basketball team.

Representing Massanutten Military Academy is Jonnie L. Herndon, daughter of Billie and Tom Herndon of Jacksonville, Fla., and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Herndon of Live Oak, Fla., and Emma Womack of Ohio.

Representing Shepherd University is Monet N. Johnson, daughter of Sheronda Gordon-Jackson and Edward Jackson of Catonsville, Md., and Dominic Johnson of Atlanta and granddaughter of Sherlene and Washington Frazier of Baltimore. A senior majoring in political science and women's studies, she is the Agriculture and Forestry Club reporter, Ag Ambassador and a collegiate 4-H member. She was the 2008 Potomac State homecoming queen and was listed in the Who's Who Among College Students.

Representing Potomac State University is Stephanie L. Sites, daughter of Tabby and Eddie Sites of Dorcas, W.Va., and granddaughter of Vicki and Jon Harman of Lost River, W.Va. and Marti and Bobby Kite and Louise and Eugene Sites, all of Dorcas. A sophomore pre-med major, she is president of the Crazy Cats Club. She is a graduate of Petersburg High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and Future Farmers of America. She received the Future Farmers of America State Degree in 2009, the Star Farmer Award in 2007 and Star Greenhand Award in 2006. She was president of the Dorcas Baptist Church youth group in 2006-2008.

Military news

Army Pfc. John W. Ballenger has returned to Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska, after being deployed to Afghanistan for one year.

He is one of 3,500 members of the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division stationed at Fort Richardson.

A cannon crew member, he is the son of Dean Ballenger and Sheila Ballenger, both of Winchester.
