Laing-Artz
Jacqueline S. Laing of Franklin, Pa., has announced the engagement of her daughter, Gretchen Charlotte, to Timothy C. Artz, son of Sherry Artz of Strasburg and the late Samuel F. Artz Jr.
Ms. Laing, also the daughter of the late Alton E. Laing, is employed by The Northern Virginia Daily.
Mr. Artz is employed by Power-Comm Inc. of Front Royal.
An October 2011 wedding is planned.

Barkley-Yowell
Elsie Barkley of Front Royal and Roger Yowell of Stanley have announced their engagement.
Ms. Barkley, a retired nurse, is the daughter of the late Lula Kidwell and Clarence Weatherholt.
Mr. Yowell, son of the late Anna Mae Cook, is self-employed.
A Dec. 1 wedding is planned.
