Military news
Air Force Airman Michael W. Perry graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The son of Scott and Kari Hartzell of Front Royal, he graduated from Skyline High School in 2010.

College news
David D'Andrea, a senior philosophy and drama major at Franciscan University of Stueubenville, has a part in the college's production of "The Bourgeois Gentleman."
He is the son of Anthony and Deborah D'Andrea of Front Royal.

Library news
Samuels Public Library has received a grant from Wal-Mart to fund its summer reading program and promote literacy.

Samuels Public Library has acquired the following books for juveniles:
Fiction: "This Totally Bites!," Ames; "Thomas And The Dragon Queen," Crun; "Serial Sabotage," Keene; "Fairies And The Quest For Never Land," Levine; "The Dead End," McCoy; "Clementine, Friend Of The Week," Pennypacker; and "The Adventures Of Nanny Piggins," Spratt.
Nonfiction: "They Called Themselves The KKK," Bartoletti; "Rihanna," Frank; and "Monsters," Malam.

Samuels Public Library has acquired the following fiction for young adults:
"Something Like Fate," Colasanti; "The Search For Wondla," Di Terlizzi; "Aries Rising," Hall; "The Complete History Of Why I Hate Her," Jacobson; "Monsters Of Men," Ness; "Ninth Ward," Rhodes; "No Moon," Watts; and "Glimpse," Williams.
