Festival princesses
Five local high school seniors have been named princesses in the court of the queen of the 85th Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival, April 27-May 5.
Representing James Wood High School is Catherine A. Beach, daughter of Sharon and John Beach of Winchester and granddaughter of Sylvia and Charles Orndorff of Clear Brook and Rozie and Robert Beach of College Place, Wash. She is president of the Leo Club, FFA senior adviser, senior class treasurer, vice president of the Latin Club and a member of the National Honor Society and the yearbook staff. A member of the varsity volleyball team, she was named Frederick County Public Schools' student athlete of the month in November 2011. She will attend Virginia Tech in the fall.
Representing Millbrook High School is Kayla M. Becks, daughter of Gina and Charles Becks of Winchester and granddaughter of Donna and Hoyt Riddle of Broadway. She was co-captain of varsity competition cheer, a member of the varsity football competition sideline cheer squad and the National Honor Society and was homecoming queen.
Representing Clarke County High School is Michaela B. Garrison, daughter of Sandy and Larry Garrison of Berryville and granddaughter of Emogene and Jim Middleton of Huber Heights, Ohio, and Annie and Lee Roy Garrison and Betty Pyne, all of Berryville. She is president of the Key Club and Interact Club, vice president of the FFA and a member of the varsity winter cheerleading squad, track and field team and the National Honor Society. She will attend Virginia Tech in the fall.
Representing Handley High School is Verna F. Hilaire-Lee, daughter of Felicia Lee of Winchester and Phaniel Hilaire of Haines City, Fla. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Handley Scholars and Key Club. She is cheer captain of the varsity sideline and competition squads and a member of the basketball and varsity indoor and outdoor track teams. She was The Northern Virginia Daily's track athlete of the year in 2010.
Representing Sherando High School is Morgan L. Sirbaugh, daughter of Laura and Alan Sirbaugh of Stephens City and granddaughter of Elaine and Donald Johnson of Winchester and Zenith Sirbaugh of Stephens City. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is captain of the volleyball, basketball and soccer teams and was Northwestern District volleyball player of the year. She will attend Virginia Tech in the fall.
