Neighborhood notes: Front Royal


The following students at Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly graduated in June and have plans to attend college:

Amanda Carroll, of Castleton, will attend the Rochester Institute of Technology. She graduated with a Classical Diploma and her Senior Thesis Topic was Right-Brain and Left-Brain Cognition: An Argument for the Necessity of a Creative Workforce.

Austen Cloud, of Castleton, will attend Indiana University. He graduated Cum Laude with a Classical Diploma. His Senior Thesis topic was The Internet: How it is Shaping Relations, Education, and Opinions in Generation I.

Alex Harris, of Sperryville, will attend the University of Mary Washington. He graduated with a Classical Diploma and his Senior Thesis topic was The Connection: How Sports Brings People Together.

Woody Hazel, of Sperryville, will attend the University of Virginia. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with an Advanced Classical Diploma. His Senior Thesis topic was Fast Food Culture: Its Detrimental Effects on Diverse Food Traditions in America.

Daniel Larner, of Sperryville, will attend the University of Mary Washington. He graduated with a Classical Diploma and his Senior Thesis topic was Sounds in the Classroom: How Music Shapes the Student.

Will Mullany, of Washington, will attend the University of Virginia. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Classical Diploma. His Senior Thesis topic was Music as Social Cohesion: Functions of Music from Africa to New Orleans.

Brian Shafran, of Viewtown, will attend the University of Virginia. The Class Salutatorian graduated Summa Cum Laude with an Advanced Classical Diploma and his Senior Thesis topic was Invisibility: It's Here and It's Real.

Benjamin Hopkins, of The Plains, graduated with a Classical Diploma. He will attend Virginia Commonwealth University and his Senior Thesis topic was The Evolution of Film Scores: Techniques, Trends, and Technology.

Michael Pearson, of Warrenton, graduated Cum Laude with an Advanced Classical Diploma. He will attend James Madison University. His Senior Thesis topic was Brains on Video Games: A Look at the Psychological Effects of Video Games.

Greg Czekaj, of Amissville, plans to attend the College of Charleston. The 2012 Valedictorian graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Classical Diploma. His Senior Thesis topic was Equality and Equal: The Difference Between the Two in Admissions Decisions at Institutions of Higher Learning.

Michael O'Heir, of Boston, plans to attend Virginia Tech. he graduated with a Classical Diploma and his Senior Thesis topic was Exposing the One-Child Policy: Finding a Better Solution.

Maxime Manzi, of Rwanda who lived with a host family in Winchester for two years, plans to attend Virginia Tech. He graduated with an International Diploma and his Senior Thesis topic was Biomimicry in Architecture: Sustainable Urban Planning for a Sub-Saharan African Community.

College news
David Corwin, of Front Royal, was named to the Academic Dean's List at Milligan College
in Tennessee, for the spring 2012 semester Corwin is an English and humanities major.
