Lecture
Aug. 15, 7 p.m. -- The final installment of Handley Regional Library's centennial lecture series, "Judge Handley and his gift to Winchester for library and schools," will explore the role private investment has played in the community in the Handley Library auditorium.
Presenter Dennis Kellison and Pat Ritchie will speak about Handley's gift to the library. The presenters also tackle myths and controversies that Judge Handley's gift generated over time.
Kellison, former superintendent of Winchester Public Schools, will share concepts from his doctoral dissertation, The Renovation and Restoration of John Handley High School Winchester, Virginia.
Ritchie has extensively researched the history of Handley's Bequest and is completing " Handley Regional Library: The First One Hundred Years." The book will be available in November.
