Weekend to usher in pre-holiday events, fundraisers

Though Thanksgiving still is nearly a week away, Christmas events have begun to pop up around the region, with Santa Claus planning an appearance in Front Royal and Browntown this weekend. Also this weekend will be a bluegrass festival, a craft fair, a fashion show and two Turkey Trots.
In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the Blue Ridge Arts Council will present its 10th Annual Deck the Halls event Friday and Saturday, beginning with the Premier Gala & Auction Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at 305 E. Main St. in Front Royal.
Featuring a live auction and silent auction gift baskets, the event will include holiday decorations for purchase. The dress code is holiday festive, and a $10 donation is suggested.
Decorators will receive two complimentary tickets to the event.
The Holly Jolly Saturday will feature a visit from Santa with fun holiday entertainment and activities for the whole family from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Trees and wreaths will be for sale.

In Page County, from 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday, the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department will host a Blazin' Bluegrass Benefit at Page County High School, at 198 Panther Drive in Shenandoah.
The event will include bluegrass music, food available for purchase, a silent auction, 50/50 drawings, raffles and a bake sale, and all proceeds will benefit the fire department. The Bluegrass Brothers, Dark Hollow, Ronnie Good & Family and Greg Lam & Friends will perform.

Also in Front Royal, at 4 p.m. Saturday, the Front Royal K-mart and F3 Foundation will join to host a benefit fashion show at Kmart, with proceeds going to St. Jude Cancer Research Hospital and F3 Foundation, which sponsors underprivileged children. The fashion show will be held at Kmart in Front Royal.

Browntown's Annual Christmas Bazaar will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, with Santa Claus expected to arrive at noon.
Local craftsmen will be sell Christmas crafts, woodworks, handcrafted items like jewelry, candles, music boxes, soap, country items and more at 39 tables. Breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase.
In Woodstock, the Central High School After Prom Committee will host a Multi-Vendor and Crafts Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in the school cafeteria on Susan Avenue.
Food and drinks will be available, and vendors will include Stone House Mixes, Thirty-One, Lia Sophia, Dove Chocolate, Scentsy, Nutrilite, Paparazzi Accessories, Mary Kay, Wildtree, Pampered Chef, Tastefully Simple, Gunner's Survival Bracelets and Shank Photography. Vendors will keep the proceeds from their own tables. All other proceeds from the event will benefit the After Prom Party, an alcohol-free and drug-free event for students following the prom.

In Luray, the Turkey Trot 10k, 5K and 1K will take place at Ruffner Plaza, Saturday, with the 5K at 9 a.m., the 10K at 9:15 a.m. and the 1 K at 11 a.m.
The family friendly event will include food and live music, and T-shirts and goody bags will be available to all pre-registered racers. All proceeds from the event will go to medical costs for Sierra Forder, a local toddler recently diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, and Page One Food Pantry.

Woodstock's 3rd Annual Woodstock Turkey Trot will take place Monday, with the 5K and 10K races beginning and ending at Massanutten Military Academy, at 614 S. Main St.
The event will benefit Luke's Backpack, a service program designed to provide healthy snacks to children and families in need, with backpacks full of goodies sent home over the weekend.
Specific food items will be collected on race day. They must be provided in individuaI serving sizes such as V8 juice, oatmeal, tuna kits, macaroni and cheese singles, peanut butter, crackers and pretzels, Teddy Grahams and Goldfish, chicken and vegetable soup, fruit cups, canned SpaghettiOs, chili or ravioli, microwave popcorn, granola bars and bottled water.
