Woodstock Moose surprises group with donation
Members of the Response staff and board got a most pleasant surprise last week when the Woodstock Moose Lodge 575 presented a check for $500 after the agency's Wit 'n' Waiter Wahoo fundraising dinner held Nov. 3 at the lodge.
Rick Simonetti, lodge administrator, explained the extra donation was the result of improved profits from the lodge's reinvigorated bingo program.
"We had a really successful bingo night the week after Response's dinner and our board decided to put some of our profits back into the community. Response is a most worthwhile agency and just the first of many we hope to help from Bingo proceeds," Simonetti said.
Lodge 575 regularly gives support to individuals and organizations in the community, Simonetti explained, "but not many people are aware of it. We take pride in serving our wonderful community and would like to encourage people to take part in our programs, such as bingo, that benefit good causes."
Bingo is held every Wednesday evening at the lodge at 152 Moose Road. Doors open at 4 p.m. and the public is welcome.
Kristie Wilkin, Response executive director, said, "The past year has been a busy one for us and this contribution is most welcome at a time when more and more people are turning to us for help. The Wit 'n' Waiter Wahoo is our largest fundraising event of the year and we appreciate the support and cooperation the Moose Lodge gave us for the dinner."
Founded in 1980, Response provides support to those affected by sexual and domestic violence and works in the schools and the greater community with programs aimed at stopping the cycle of violence.
