R-MA students recognized for athletic achievement

Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, recognized the following for athletic achievement during the 2012 fall sports season:

Emma Geraldine Bunker, a freshman and the daughter of Rev. Jonathan Bunker and Dr. Susan Gawalt, of Berryville, was named the R-MA most improved runner for the R-MA varsity cross-country team.

Thomas S. Shea, a freshman and the son of Debra and Bobby Adams, of Winchester, and James T. Shea, also of Winchester, was named the R-MA most valuable runner for the R-MA varsity cross-country team.

C. Grace Alexander, a junior and the daughter of Lyle and Melinda Alexander, of Front Royal, received the R-MA Coaches' Award for the R-MA varsity cross-country team.

Cody Borden, a freshman and the son of Clif and Dean Borden, of Winchester, was named the R-MA most valuable player for the R-MA JV soccer team.

Gordon Anderson, a sophomore and the son of Greg Anderson, of Front Royal, and Mary Anderson, also of Front Royal, received the R-MA Coaches' Award for the R-MA JV soccer team.

Orion Piper, an eighth grader and the son of Carrie and Roy Leonard of Front Royal, VA and Troy Piper of Cleveland, Ohio, was named the R-MA most valuable runner for the R-MA Middle School cross-country team.

Dylan Glascock, a seventh grader and the son of Scott and Susan Glascock, of Front Royal, received the R-MA Coaches' Award for the R-MA Middle School cross-country team.

Remington Ann Gillis, an eighth grader and the daughter of Peter and Laura Gillis, of Winchester, was named the R-MA most improved player for the R-MA Middle School golf team.

Thomas Minchew, an eighth grader and the son of Amy Minchew, of Winchester, was named the R-MA most valuable player for the R-MA Middle School golf team.

Joseph Silek, the son of Joe and Jane Silek of Front Royal, received the R-MA Coaches' Award for the R-MA Middle School golf team. Joseph is an eighth grade student at the Academy.

Benjamin Gillis, a junior and the son of David Gillis, of Front Royal, and Gracie Gillis, of Flint Hill, was named the R-MA most valuable player for the R-MA varsity soccer team. Ben was also recognized by the Delaney Athletic Conference being named All-Conference, soccer 1st team and receiving an honorable mention to the All-Conference Team as the football kicker.

Taylor M. Jones, a freshman and the daughter of Rick and Brenda Jones, of Front Royal, was named to the Delaney Athletic Conference All-Conference Team, honorable mention for the R-MA varsity volleyball team.

Elizabeth "Libby" Doran, a senior and the daughter of Joe and Mariola Doran, of Front Royal, was named the R-MA most valuable player for the R-MA varsity volleyball team. Libby was also recognized by the Delaney Athletic Conference, being named to the All-Conference 1st Team.

Dillon Frazier was named to the Dean's List at Slippery Rock University for the fall semester. He is a freshman majoring in Park and Resource Management and is the son of Yvonne and James Frazier, of Mt. Jackson.
