Wakefield's swim team fares well at invitational

Members of the Wakefield Country Day School Varsity Swimming Team did well in the Second Annual Winter Invitational swim meet held at St. Michael the Archangel High School on Jan. 12.

Once again, senior Rachel DuMez, of Front Royal, led the way for the Owls with two first place finishes. She captured the 100-yard freestyle in 56.9 seconds and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.07. Sophomore Anne Katherine Burns, of Boyce, was another key contributor with third-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (1:10) and the 500-yard freestyle (6:53.85).

Senior Conor O'Heir, of Huntly, led the boys team with a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.97), while eighth grader Lucas DuMez placed fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:26.56). The relay team of O'Heir, DuMez, senior Will Scaring and freshman Shane O'Heir scored with two seventh-place finishes and one in ninth place.

Among the seven teams competing, the boys team won one of six dual meets, while the girls won two of six.
