Woodstock veterinarian Bruce Coston will host a talk, book signing and question and answer session at Samuels Public Library in Front Royal on Wednesday, January 30.
Starting at 6:30 p.m., Coston will discuss his two books -- Ask the Animals and The Gift of Pets -- and what the reader can gain from them. He will also read excerpts from both books, and copies of both will be available for purchase.
Coston has had a busy last few months, full of book signings and readings across the country. The L.A. Times placed The Gift of Pets on its summer reading list of 2012, and it will be featured in the upcoming Virginia Festival of the Book in Charlottesville this March.
"It's all been very exciting getting to meet the readers," Coston said. "Interacting with other pet lovers, who respond to these stories at a deep level, is very rewarding."
Coston said the true gift of being a pet owner is having a "deep compassion for animals." Along the same line, the "gift" has the power to influence other aspects of an owner's life, and through the stories told in his second book, Coston hopes to celebrate that gift.
"Sometimes the stories from a vet's perspective are funny, but sometimes they're full of emotion," Coston said. "But they all play into the love of pets."
