Daily Staff Report
The Winchester Book Gallery will welcome two authors this week for book signings today and Saturday.
First Jeffrey Frank, author of "Ike and Dick: Portrait of a Strange Political Marriage," will be available to sign books from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. today.
Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Roger Engle, of Hedgesville, W.Va., will be in Winchester to sign his book "Stories: From a Small Town."
In "Ike and Dick," Frank rediscovers two compelling figures -- Dwight D. Eisenhower and Richard Nixon -- by offering a view of the younger Nixon as a striving tactician and the ever more perplexing person that he became, according to promotional information from the book gallery.
Frank portrays Eisenhower, the legendary soldier, as a cold, even vain man with a warm smile whose instincts about war and peace far outpaced his understanding of the changes occurring in his own country.
Engle's book takes readers through a mental journey of his hometown, and in doing so, rediscoveres his childhood around every corner.
Stories from a Small Town places the reader in Hedgesville between the years of 1948 and 1964, guided through the eyes of a child.
Winchester Book Gallery is located at 185 N. Loudoun St., Winchester. For more information, call 667-3444 or visit winchesterbookgallery.com.
