The Sky family of Prince Edward Island, Canada, will perform fiddle music and high intensity Irish Riverdance steps as part of their Gospel production "Celtic Revival" at the Winchester Church of God in April.
It's the second time the family has performed for the eight Presbyterian parishes of the valley, which are sponsoring the event, said Pat Smith, a member of the stewardship committee for the united parishes.
The Skys have toured the United States and Canada for the last six years, according to a press release from the Church of God, at 2080 North Frederick Pike, where the family will perform at 4 p.m. April 13.
The production consists of world-class Irish dancing combined with lively fiddle music and songs rich in harmonies, according to the press release.
Tom Sky plays lead guitar, fiddle and piano, with daughter Miriam on piano and sons Seth, Joel and Gabe divvying up performances on bass, fiddle, flute, saxophone, guitar and drums. Miriam and Gabe Sky are lead dancers, but all members of the group contribute to harmonies and dance.
The Skys include humorous stories and inspirational testimonies in their family friendly event.
The eight Presbyterian parishes of the valley share three associate pastors and a senior pastor, Joel Thornton, but it was last year's interim senior pastor who first decided to contact the Sky family, Smith said.
"She was everything Irish," said Smith. "She had two Irish setters and the whole house was Irish."
After the success of last year's performance by the Skys at Opequon Church of Kernstown, Smith said the committee asked the family to return. Needing to find a new location this year, they decided on the Church of God, which is large enough to accommodate the performances and crowd, Smith said.
So far everyone Smith has talked to about the upcoming show, particularly those who attended last year, is excited to attend, even her husband who was skeptical at first, she said. The Skys won him over.
"He went and he was thoroughly thrilled with the whole thing," she said.
"Hopefully we'll have a good turnout."
